Indianapolis Colts Free Agency Grade and Review

Contributor: Matt Adams, Colts Couch Crew

Team Needs: OL, LB, WR, DL

Key additions: None (so far)

Key Losses: OG Jake Scott (signed with Titans), DT Anthony McFarland (waived), LB Rob Morris (waived), DT Dan Klecko (signed with Eagles), TE Ben Utecht (signed with Bengals), LB Rocky Boiman (signed with Eagles)

Key Free Agents Retained: S Bob Sanders, TE Dallas Clark (franchised, then signed), OG Ryan Lilja, DE Josh Thomas

Free Agency Notes: The Colts haven't made waves this offseason, but no one expected them to. If they were to make a major move as soon as the free agent period kicked off, it would've shocked just about everyone; it's just not the way Bill Polian and company run their business. The front office gets a lot of credit for retaining its basic building blocks. Signing players like Sanders, Clark, and Lilja to long-term deals helps bring a sense of continuity to the ballclub. Many of their losses are solid role-players who can be replaced. Losing Scott raises a few questions about the offensive line, although the Colts were forced to choose between him and Lilja.

Grade: B

Review of Grade: It almost feels like you could give the Colts an incomplete. After all, who have they brought it? Absolutely no one. Then again, their philosophy is to build through the draft and place a high value on their most important players. They've managed to keep their top players without any earth-shattering losses. In addition, owner Jim Irsay has rewarded Bill Polian with a contract extenion. For those reasons, I'll give them a solid B; no more, no less.

THE HIGHEST OF PROFILES

The NFL, as often has been the case in recent years, made broadcast history in 2008, with Super Bowl XLII being the most-watched sports telecast of the year - and the most-watched Super Bowl ever - and NFL postseason games making up the year's top four most-watched sports telecasts.

Fine Coming for Colts DE Freeney?

From: Pro Football Talk.com Well, when a guy has a $72 million contract, he can afford a $20,000 fine or two. Sports regarding the quality (or lack thereof) of the officiating. “Those were the worst [expletive] calls I’ve [...]

No Charges Coming for Harrison

From: Pro Football Talk.com Prosecutorial discretion is one of the most expansive and powerful concepts in the law.
