NBA Coaching Hot Seat
Even though the NBA season has just started, there are still some coaches that better not get comfortable. Some coaches have to turn bad teams around, while others need to keep their good teams winning. Either way, the bottom line is winning. Coaches don’t last long is this league without it. Here is the Hot Seat:
The Seat is Burning –
- Isiah Thomas – Thomas has as many lives as a cat and has used up most of them. His team again underachieved last season, and then he spent his off season disputing charges that he abused a female employee of the Knicks. His team needs to win early, or Mr. Dolan will have no choice but to let Thomas go.
- George Karl – Denver went out last season and acquired a running mate for Carmelo. George needs to get Iverson and Carmelo working together and notch some early victories. The egos on this team will either gel quickly or run George out of Denver.
- Mike Woodson – Did anyone even know he has been the coach in Atlanta for the last 3 years? He has never won more than 30 games. The Hawks have some talent, and Woodson needs wins now if he wants to keep his job.
The Seat is Red Hot –
- Maurice Cheeks – Cheeks is entering his 3rd year with the 76ers and has yet to make the playoffs. Philly fans are quick to turn on coaches, so even Maurice is in jeopardy if he can’t get to the post season.
- Mike Dunleavy – Yes, his team has started well, but it better continue winning. There is plenty of talent on this team even without Brand. Dunleavy needs a solid year, or he will be looking for work in the off season.
- Scott Skiles – Chicago has the pieces to make a deep run. This could be the best team in the East. The Bulls have started slow, which puts the pressure on Skiles. It will be tough to win amidst the Kobe rumors, but he better get this team focused, or Phil might be coming back with Kobe.
Six very good coaches may be looking for work soon. Let’s monitor their progress and see where these teams are a couple months from now. Let us know what you think.
