Week 5 NCAA Picks
This week we had a hard time deciding which games to pick. After a lot of debate, we decided on the following eight. We struggled against the spread last week, but we are convinced this will be bounce-back week for sportprojections.com.
West Virginia (-7) at South Florida – The South Florida Bulls beat the Mountaineers last year in West Virginia. This year, the Bulls have sold out Raymond James Stadium for the first time ever. West Virginia knows this is a huge game for both teams and will not overlook the Bulls this year. White, Slaton, and Reynaud will run all over the Bulls defense. Pick: West Virginia –7
Maryland at Rutgers (-14.5) – This is the first real test for Ray Rice and the Scarlet Knights. The good for Rutgers is it had a week off to prepare; the bad is it hasn’t really been tested. Maryland is coming off a tough loss to Wake and may be looking for someone to take it out on. This is a big spread for Rutgers to cover. Pick: Maryland + 14.5
Auburn at Florida (-18) – This is a down year for the Auburn Tigers, but the team always gets up for the Gators. We would pick the Tigers except for one thing, Florida struggled last week. Tim Tebow will run wild in this one, and the Gators will have Florida’s most dominant SEC win in a long time. Pick: Florida – 18
Kansas State at Texas (–14.5) – This is a huge Big 12 game. Texas has looked dominant the last few weeks, but the Wildcats would like nothing more than to beat the Longhorns. Kansas State beat Texas last year, and it believes it can win again. Texas is going to be forced to go to the air because K-State has a great run defense. Texas either wins big or loses. Pick: Texas –14.5
California at Oregon (-6) – This is the game of the week. If you want to watch some offensive explosion, this is the game for you. Neither offense has been slowed down in the four games of the season. The winner may be determined by who has the ball last on the field. Pick: California +6
Alabama at Florida State (-2) – The Crimson Tide comes off a disappointing loss in overtime to Georgia at home. The Tide played two difficult games in the last two weeks. The Seminoles had a week off to prepare for the game this week. Expect the Seminoles to be fresh and ready to prove it should be in the top 25. Pick: Florida State -2
Oklahoma (-23) at Colorado – Colorado has another chance this season to upset a team. It didn’t put up much of a challenge against Arizona State and Florida State earlier this season. Expect the Buffaloes to lose again to Oklahoma but be close enough to cover the spread at home. Pick: Colorado +23
Michigan State at Wisconsin (-7.5) – The Badgers could only muster 17 points against Iowa last week. The Spartans are riding high in confidence after going a surprising 4-0 to start the season. Expect Wisconsin to win the game but not to cover the spread. Pick: Michigan State +7.5
Good luck with this week’s picks. We will see you next week with another set of sportprojections.com picks.
