Loyal bloggers and fans from the Independent schools have contributed to our 2007 Independent College Football Preview. They created a preview for their teams, a win-loss prediction for each game during the season, and a bowl game prediction. Click on each team name to visit its team page and read the season preview.
Notre Dame returns from a 10-3 season last year. This record would be considered a success for most schools, but the last two games of the year against USC and LSU gave most Fighting Irish fans a bitter taste. The lack of returning starters and a brutal schedule at the beginning of the year will test this team immediately.
The schedule makers weren’t kind to Notre Dame. They needed their last four games of the season pushed to the beginning. Notre Dame begins their season against Georgia Tech, at Penn State, at Michigan, Michigan State, at Purdue, at UCLA, Boston College, and USC. They finish the season with Navy, Air Force, Duke, and at Stanford. It will be difficult for their 15 new starters to make any mistakes at the beginning if they want to win several of those games. If Notre Dame wins 8 or more games this season, it will be a huge success for the coaching staff.
Navy returns from a successful 9-4 season and wins over Army and Air Force. The running game should continue to dominate on the offense. The test will be if they can stop anyone this season on the defensive end with only two returning starters. Navy has a great opportunity to be a spoiler for some big schools as they play at Rutgers, home against Wake Forest, and at Notre Dame. Navy plans to win the Commander-in-Chief’s trophy for the fifth consecutive season.
Army had a season to forget last year with a 3-9 record and a loss to Navy at the end of the season. They hired Stan Brock as their new head coach and hope he can spark them back to a winning season. They return 6 starters on both sides of the ball to help in their rebuilding. It might take a couple of years for Army to reach another bowl game, but a win over Navy this year would heal most wounds of a losing season.
